AHIMA Member Exclusive Townhall: Insights and Updates

Updated: May 25

AHIMA held a Member Exclusive Townhall to provide an update on the organization’s status including, financials, membership, leadership, new CEO, and educational plans for 2025.

AHIMA Member Exclusive Townhall

provides a great opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from the

AHIMA leadership.

AHIMA held a “Member Exclusive” Town Hall April 22, 2025; after a short introduction from AHIMA leadership, the focus was on responding to members questions.

First, thank you AHIMA for providing the Town Hall; an opportunity to engage with and respond to AHIMA members questions and concerns.

AHIMA leadership:

The Town Hall was led by Cristina Iaboni, AHIMA Interim CEO, Past-President, Mona Calhoun PhD, MS, Med, RHIA, FAHIMA, Dana Perrino, AHIMA Chief Member Services Officer and Maria Caban Alizondo, PhD, RHIT, FAHIMA ... President/Chair-Elect.

Also contributing: Jennifer (Laughlin) Mueller, MBA, RHIA, SHIMSS, FACHE, FAHIMA, FACHDM, Senior Vice President of Health Information Career Advancement and, Dr. Jasmine T. Agnew, DHPE, MHIM, RHIA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, CSBI, eFACHDM, CLC, Seniro Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professional Credentials.

Main Take-Aways:

🌟1) An update for the MyAHIMAHub webpage is given >> work continues with the current website developer Altai/Dynamics to stabilize the website; however Altai is “not part of the long-term solution” as stated.  A new developer has been identified with a timeline of 12-18 months for completion and transition to the new developer and website.

🌟2) The search was launched April 11, 2025 for the new AHIMA CEO with executive recruitment firm Korn Ferry chosen to lead the recruitment process. The recruitment post is on AHIMA’s website, LinkedIn and other professional social platforms. The CEO position is open to anyone who meets the qualification. Some updates to the job requirements have been made including HCPro (which was not included in the previous search), along with a Master’s degree and AHIMA credentials preferred.

🌟3) Work continues on the AHIMA Webinars and Quizzes page; OLD and IRRELEVANT material has been removed and current material as of July 2023 is added. Eventually, “the plan is to have 100 webinars for CEUs and will add HCPro webinars”. Articles and Journal materials are still in AHIMA store. *** Looks nice and “works”, thanks AHIMA.

🌟4) FYI >>> Communication Preferences for each AHIMA member are listed under Member Profile. Each member’s account is automatically assigned to “opt-in” for all AHIMA communication; you will need to login and select opt-out to change the emails and communication from AHIMA.

🌟5) Much time was devoted to clarifying the CEU requirements. Much clarification is needed so I will not “attempt” to summarize for AHIMA. Bottom line >>> the 40% requirement is “on hold” along with the 20% “roll-over” opportunity. A table was provided showing the number of CEUs required per certification, the number free from AHIMA, etc. Hopefully, this table will be published on the AHIMA website.

🌟 AHIMA has not furnished the pass-rate for the certifications; all data have been removed from the AHIMA website. What do we have to hide, AHIMA?

🔥Nothing on the AHIMA financials or publication of the Annual Report for 2023 or 2024.

During the AHIMA Member Exclusive Townhall: Insights and Updates

Many members expressed difficulties getting a response from AHIMA customer service (the backlog remains around 5,000 per AHIMA leadership.

Some interesting happenings:

The chat feature was not available for the Town Hall; only Q&A feature for communicating with colleagues.

Other limited information >>> The number of individuals registered, and number online was not given.

These are my thoughts from the AHIMA Member Exclusive Townhall: Insights and Updates ~~ not speaking for AHIMA.
